The CC Sabathia Family Foundation's "PitCCh In", a 501 (c)(3) national non profit, is dedicated to enriching the lives of inner city youth by working to raise self-esteem through education and athletic activities.
The following are just a few of "PitCCh In's" recent outreach activities:
My parents taught me at an early age that humility and taking a leadership role seriously is important. I've taken that to heart and try to live my life in a way that kids can look up to and learn from and that other adults can appreciate.
A huge part of that is my active involvement in the community where I play baseball but also in my hometown of Vallejo, California . I'm also involved in some national charities like the Boys and Girls Clubs, Strikeouts for Troops (see below) and the Larry Doby RBI program.
It can often times get lost in the mix of important world and national news but there are a lot of athletes that take pride in taking advantage of their positions in their communities to give back. I pride myself on being one of them.
I have been a regular participant in the Cleveland Indians Winter Press Caravan and has been involved in numerous community endeavors during his tenure with Cleveland including: OfficeMax Parent-Child Clinics, the Larry Doby RBI Program, Red Cross' "Fire Prevention Week," the Cleveland Scholarship Program, Grand Slam Summer Literacy, High Achievers and the Giant Eagle week-long baseball camps. I am a regular visitor to children's hospitals in the Bay Area and throughout the country.

I can't stress enough how important it is to give back to the community and help as many people as you can to help them live the better lives they deserve.

In every community, there are hundreds of girls and boys who are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets or who spend many hours at home with no adult supervision. Many form groups or gangs, become involved with the wrong "leaders," and eventually find themselves in serious trouble.
Today more young people live in disadvantaged circumstances than ever before. National statistics depict an alarming number of multi-faceted problems which negatively impact these girls and boys, their families, and their communities.

Strikeouts For Troops was founded by fellow major league pitcher Barry Zito. Together, along with a full roster of major leaguers, we raise funds to provide 'comforts of home' to our war wounded heroes while being cared for at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Bethesda Naval Hospital, Brooke Army and other military hospitals nationwide. Strikeouts For Troops also provides assistance to their children and families.
Strikeouts for Troops is non partisan and 100% of the money raised is sent directly to help our wounded. This is my 5th season to participate in Strikeouts For Troops and I am proud to say that I honor and support America's Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines working to keep us safe and free.
