Clinic Coaches Josh Ramos (l), CC Sabathia (c), and Dave Bernstine (r) welcome kids to the camp!

More than 300 baseball players ages five to 12 attended CC Sabathia’s North Vallejo Little League All-Star Baseball Clinic on January 28.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning at North Vallejo and it was a great day to play ball! The clinic, put together by CC’s “PitCCh In Foundation” was free to those interested in learning from some of the best in the game. It is also a vehicle to get kids interested in playing baseball in their community.

Ballplayers got to work in teams based on age groups and rotated to participate in several different stations to focus on different aspects of the game. Along with the complementary baseball instructions, the free registration included a free MLB licensed baseball hat, T-shirt, lunch courtesy of Subway, a certificate of completion and signed baseball.

Among the work stations were the Basics of Baseball, Pitching, Hitting, Base Running, Catching, Stretching, and Nutrition.

Some of CC’s old friends and teammates were on hand to provide instructions as well, including former Major Leaguer Damon Hollins and current Houston Astro Joe Thurston. Both are Vallejo High School graduates.

There was no shortage of provided help as dozens of volunteers helped to make it a memorable experience for ballplayers. CC’s mom, Margie, was humbled with the “overwhelming” number of volunteers willing to help out. – a true testament of the type of person CC is.

Although the clinic lasted just three hours long, CC and his friends created memories that will last a lifetime for those who participated.

"I grew up in the Boys & Girls Club, grew up in the inner city, saw everything that it can do for you," Sabathia said. "I was fortunate to be able to get out, and now I'm trying to give back."
