Feb. 28th – Frank Robinson: A Salute to Black History Baseball Heroes

      Share
      Tweet

Before he became Major League Baseball’s first black manager, Frank Robinson had a spectacular Hall of Fame career. He is the only player to have won a league MVP award in both the American League and National League and won the Triple Crown in 1966 – the same year he led the Baltimore Orioles to a World Series title. He was also named series MVP.

      CC on Frank:
Frank Robinson (outfielder) “Obviously, he was one of the best players in the history of the game. He was the first black manager in baseball history. He has been a great mentor through my career.”

Did You Know: Robinson attended McClymonds High School in Oakland, CA, where he was a basketball teammate of future NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell.

CC Celebrates Black History Month – The Pioneers of the Game of Baseball

Everyday for the month of February, CC will feature one of his baseball heroes as part of Black History month. Each one of the men had a profound effect on the game of baseball and was an inspiration to CC as he worked to become a Major League Baseball player.

"I grew up in the Boys & Girls Club, grew up in the inner city, saw everything that it can do for you," Sabathia said. "I was fortunate to be able to get out, and now I'm trying to give back."
