While Jackie Robinson was the first African-American to play in the Majors, Larry Doby was the first African American to play in the American League. A star centerfielder with the Cleveland Indians, Doby was a seven-time All-Star and won a World Series championship in 1948. In 2007 – four years after his death – CC and other Cleveland Indians players petitioned to honor Doby by collectively wearing his No. 14 in a game.

Doby was the first black player to hit a home run in a World Series game. He did it in Game 4 of the 1948 Fall Classic against the Boston Braves.
