Leroy “Satchell” Paige was not only a pioneer, but a true iron man of the game. Before becoming the oldest player to debut in a Major League baseball game (at 41), he had done most of his damage in the Negro Leagues. He won a Negro Leagues championship in 1942 and a World Series championship in 1948. He played his last Major League game in 1965 with the Kansas City A’s – when he was 58 years old. He was the first Negro Leagues player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1971.
