

Best known for being the first African-American to play Major League Baseball, Jackie Robinsonspent eight seasons in the big leagues (all with the Brooklyn Dodgers) providing spectacular playon the field and overcoming racial discrimination off it . After retiring in 1956, he was inducted tothe Baseball Hall of Fame (first ballot) in 1962. In 1997 – the 50th anniversary of the first gamehe played in the bigs, Major League Baseball retired Robinson’s No. 42 throughout the league.Although he was solely a baseball player, Robinson is considered an icon significant to the CivilRights Movement. He is immediately thought of among all African-American professional athletes(past and present) as THE pioneer for black athletes.

CC Celebrates Black History Month – The Pioneers of the Game of Baseball
Everyday for the month of February, CC will feature one of his baseball heroes as part of Black History month. Each one of the men had a profound effect on the game of baseball and was an inspiration to CC as he worked to become a Major League Baseball player.
